    Actually this feature ha been added from MIUI 7 and it's quite stupid because it should be possibile with a one-finger-gesture just like all AOSP roms.

    I don't receive whatsapp messages until I open the app after the phone goes to sleep for a while. I've set all the good way in settings, uninstall/reinstall the app, clear dalvik cache, but no way.
