When did the new accounts get approved? I think that in the first two weeks of december all DEV rom running devices were able to unlock, it did not matter which account they were running. Now you have to apply for the unlock, but I could be wrong.

You make it sound so easy, but unfortunately it is not. For us (new) Mi.com users we have trouble getting the MiFlashUnlock app to work. After logging in (while running the latest dev rom and with the correct Mi account with the latest flash tool) the only thing we see is this (see attachment)...

Did you unlock the device? If not, 99,999999999% change it's locked as all Redmi Note 3 are locked and I have not seen one with an unlocked bootloader yet.

To risky, I would only test it if TWRP is available, so you can make a proper back-up and restore it if something goes wrong.
