you need to unlock the bootloader und flash the trwp recovery. after this you are able to install supersu (root) thru twrp. download the needed zip file from here: https://download.chainfire.eu/999/SuperSU/

if your phone is rooted you can use flashify to install trwp recovery. the fastboot way is the only way without root.
