It's not your fault that Xiaomi killed excellent system. Maybe they will bring the old features back, but I wouldn't wait, I wouldn't live in a maybe-someday-land. You could try other ROMs though, they won't be worse than this half-baked miui 6.

I haven't encountered this problem (yet). Also do not have any strange wakelocks and no battery drain (on the contrary my battery life has been better than on Miui). After reading this thread one can easily come to the conclusion that everyone has this issue so I wanted to add this.

I used it without Gapps (because I don't like the way Google can update anything on my phone without asking, and I do not need sync all the time, I can download apk from Google Play via computer and also there is Nogapps project) and battery was very good.

Did you check it in the Wakelock detector? In accounts there's menu option for autosync, default setting is On. Did you uncheck it? Otherwise I do not know what to do next...
