Why not?

Just download the ROM manually on your phone. There are 3 mirrors I think, one of them should have a good download speed for you. You don't necessarily need a laptop or pc, only if you want to download the ROM to it and then copy it to your phone.

I think they are oriented to newer phones, not expensive ones. Let's face it, in 3 months your phone is gonna be 4 years old. Maybe it's time for a change.

Why do you need to update it connected to the laptop? You could use the phone's Updater app.

Anyone else having SwiftKey lag? I don't think that it's the keyboard's fault, it worked well on 4.10.x and it wasn't updated since then. It just lags horribly. First, I though it was from xposed, but I uninstalled it and it's still the same.

Just download and flash the latest available ROM for mi3. The version you have is really old.
