Hi, Xiaomi.eu 8.2.1.0 on Mi5 - I can't turn off spell checker. I turn the switch off, but once you get out of the setting it turns itself on again (if you re-enter the menu it is switched back on). Any ideas how to fix this?

So it's something with the baseband FW - it doesn't give info even with root. Based on speedtest compared to cat4 LTE device, Kate does not connect to 4G+. I get up to 70 Mbps on Kate, and 110 Mbps on the S7 at the same location & with same referrent server. Hopefully they will improve the modem...

Under "signals" tab the third field from top to bottom should give you LTE band. If you are on 4g+ it will give 2 bands. I don't know if it will display downstream channel width (if its 10MHz it's cat4 LTE, if its 20 MHz or higher its Cat6 or above, i.e. 4G+). For example, Mi5 supports Cat12 LTE...

It should say 4G+ on the status bar. Otherwise, you need to use some app (like LTE Discovery but it requires root to recognize bands - I am not rooted). Your operator should support it also (4G+ or also known as LTE-A i.e. LTE-advanced).

Can you get 4G+ on your Kate - supposedly it is capable of Cat7 LTE which means it supports career frequencies aggregation. Since it supports almost all bands, we should be able to get it, but I don't (same SIM connetcts to 4G+ in my Galaxy S7 aggregating B3 and B20).

It is generally unusual to have official ROM OTA updates with custom recovery. I wouldn't waste time and energy on that.

Boot in fastboot and connect to PC. Run command: fastboot oem deviceinfo or fastboot oem device-info (I am not sure what was the syntax). Look in the second line of the result.
