Indeed, uninstalling Google Messages fixed the problem. I never thought that was the problem because I had Xiaomi EU's Messaging app set as the default app.

That's great. App Vault seems to be quite broken. Would love to eventually change to Google Discover. Hoping that you guys enable this feature in future releases.
