Well that was happening to all miui roms I tried. If u move dalvik cache on SD you have this problem.
The solution is simple.after you move dalvik cache on sd you enter again on recovery mode and you re-wipe cache and dalvik cache.after that sound will work fine

It happened again, last time it was temporarily fixed by updating the language pack. I'll try a wipe this time :/

i clean dalvik and cache from time to time, and also fix the SD-ext partition and fix permisions.

This problem (and the other one i reported, of the sound input failing, http://miui-dev.com/forums/showthread.php?418-Sound-Input-stops-working ), seem re re-apear from time to time.

Cleaning cache worked for me for now. Isn't the audio volume handled by the kernel? Maybe changing to a different one could prevent the problem from reappearing, does anyone know kernels that can be used with MIUI?

yes, i think so, but i have never explored custom kernels

i heard nice things about wildmonkeys kernel, dunno what variation, for MIUI.

But the same people warned that battery lasted less with it.
