Downloads For The Weekly Roms Are Impossibly Slow

I can't really download any weekly ROM for my MiNote because download speeds from androidfilehost are unbelievably slow, constantly under 10kb/s. There's no other way to get ROMs faster? I'm in Europe and the only available mirrors are in the US, but this is really too slow to be suitable, I have 3 days as an ETA.

Sadly, I tried all four of them multiple times with the same result.
I'm talking about the 7.6.14 release which (correct me if I'm mistaken) should be the latest weekly release for Mi Note. Can't really download it in any way.

EDIT: Tried with a couple older releases too, nothing.

Oh, didn't see the MiNote release on the sourceforge link, just the MiNotePro one, so I assumed there wasn't a virgo version.
It seems there's one in the androidfilehost link and it's downloading in reasonable time, thanks!

If I may ask a slightly off-topic question, can I upgrade directly from a MIUI 7 build to a MIUI 9 one? I would obviously do a data wipe.

See installation guide in post #2 of thread 7.2.9, change of Android base 5 to 7.

Thanks for the answer!

On the MiNote there was no base change. It has been on marshmallow since 6.1.28 and it is still based on android 6.0.
Does this mean that I can upgrade to the latest ROM with no problems or there's something else to it than the android version?

No...you must be on 6.12.22 5.1 before you upgrade.....

As I said, the Mi Note was on 6.0 already by that version and is still on MM. ;)

You don't use download accelerator on your device?

I use idm+ and everything is working fine.

Aaarg ... my fault, the thread I mentioned was about MI NOTE PRO, sorry.
In this case I think you can simply update with just wipe cache and dalvik cache - if you succeed in downloading the rom ;)

No problem. I downloaded the ROM but I still have to flash TWRP. Sadly, it seems that flashing the virgo zip from the Updater app doesn't work for me (it just reboots the phone without making any changes), and since root is not working here either, I can't use Flashify. Is there anything else I can try? Is it okay if I try to flash the custom recovery directly from the official recovery?

Can I use the fastboot method even if I have a xiaomi.eu ROM already?

@nicotto: If you already got TWRP on your phone, you can flash it with this installed TWRP manually by booting the phnoe into Recovery. Or use the Fastboot method from the thread you mentionend.
It is not possible to install the custom Recovery from the official Recovery. You first need to unlock your BL (if not already done), then flash TWRP with Fastboot method and then EU-ROM from TWRP. SuperSU ore Magisk you also can flash through TWRP.
A new possibility is the XiaoMiTool: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/tool-xiaomitool-xiaomi-rom-changing-made-easy.40576/ or HP http://xiaomitool.com/
I didn't try it yet but other people are very satisfied with it.

Tried to install it via fastboot, and for some obscure reason, Mi Recovery still pops out instead of TWRP.

My bootloader shouldn't be locked, I'm pretty sure no xiaomi.eu weekly build ever locked the bootloader, and I have never had a Global or Chinese build. :(

Check if your BL is locked in Fastboot mode:

Edit: He solved it in thread https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/how-to-easily-install-twrp-recovery.30484/page-6#post-389559
