I'd like to assign google now function, long pressing the home button. Everything is ok untill I turn the phone off. When I turn it on, the assignment is missing and I need to do it another time. Any suggestions? Mi5s plus, Developer EU rom 7.6.8

    Try this:
Go to Setting > Installed apps > Defaults > Assist & voice input
Choose Google app instead of Smart assistant

I had the same problem on a Mi5s running 8.5.3.0.EU, and this procedure solved it!
    Thanks

Not working for me! After a little while it switches back to smart assistant. Really bad bug!

I confirm, it also reverts in my case, after next reboot. I think I celebrated it too soon :(

Is there no solution to this situation?

I think disabling smart assistant solves that issue.
If you have titanium backup, then from there, freeze 'Smart Assistant'. This worked for me.
    Hope this helps.
