Okay, time to return a favor to this forum -and- as nobody brought together the solutions..here it is:

The Mi-Box is cheap, sturdy and somehow very powerfull compared to other boxes
....but some folks want their own launcher or XBMC...well that's possible.
Well at least I wanted to mod it...as I don't understand Chinese....
So a quick and dirty manual -without pics- of modifying you Mi-Box!

I post link's to the website with sources as dev goes so fast...that it grows old while writing.
There are also more config options..I just give you 1 to keep it simple as possible.

Prerequisites:
  1. Patience
  2. Mi-Box
  3. Windows PC (didn't test it on Linux or osX)
  4. Use Google to find apk files and the ability to download using the provided links
  5. Espresso, Beer or something else wet....
  6. ...and oh yes....that darned standard USB cable....
_________________________________________________________________

Phase One: Preparation
Don's skip this step...better be safe then sorry!
Especially if you bought a prepped Mi-Box you want to keep all that neat stuff.

1. Power on Mi Box
2. If you bought a rooted Mi-Box skip to step 5...
Install and start Shuame --> Shutdown any other app if installed!!!
connect the Mi-Box after installation
http://www.shuame.com/
3. Wait patiently and click [ Root ] --> You Mi-Box will now be rooted.
4. Close Shuame and disconnect the Mi-Box
5. Install and start Snappea, --> Shutdown any other app (Shuame) if installed!!!
connect the Mi-Box after installation
http://www.snappea.com/
Wait patiently for a few minutes. Snappea will install a client on the MiBox
6. First make a backup with Snappea.
7. Second go to Apps and EXPORT all APK's you want to keep!

If you've got a prepped box this will grab you all the nice apk files on your Mi-Box

Phase II: The Gathering
Okay, time to prepare modding/adjusting the Mi-Box.
Just remember DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING YET....
Just make a folder and put in all the APK's you want.
1. Language patch - Grab a morelocale apk for your so much wanted language pack
http://goo.im/devs/akulgupta100/BUZZ/miniCM/9
2. Adoba Flash Player - Development stopped, but hey you can still grab this apk
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1061194
https://download.macromedia.com/pub...roid/11.1.115.69/install_flash_player_ics.apk
3. Google Apps: --> If you want the play store...grab it...
http://goo.im/gapps
Use the following app to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589167
4. Tools....well some basic tools...
ES file explorer: http://www.estrongs.com/
ES task manager: http://www.estrongs.com/
5. XMBC: --> Well if you want it also install mx.videoplayer
...and it is one way to swap to another language.
XBMC: http://xbmc.org/download/
mx.videoplayer : https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/download
6. Yeah gather al other video, movie, tv apk you want

Phase III: The magic... installation...
Well now the explanation...sometimes when you flash a single apk
....the Mi-Box suddenly lets all the other APK dissappear.
Somehow the Mi-Box does a reset....thus let you loose all your APK's except the recent install.
You can try add some...it normally works okay.

But the safe method is to gather all the apk's together in one folder an flash them all in one single session.

I keep a folder with your personal APK cocktail updated!

1. While the Mi-Box is connected through Snappea go to Apps and click on [ Install Apps ] and install all the APK's in one single session!
2. When finished disconnect the Mi-Box from the USB cable and connect it to your TV.
3. When starting up DO NOT click on any Chinese text ...it says [always] and [once].
If you installed XMBC double click the icon to select.
4. Within XMBC go to settings....and find the [A] icon. The language icon.
Change the language to...(wow....more languages) the language of your choice.
morelocale donated you those sweet options.
5. Well enjoy your Mi-Box.
Once happy with your config..select your launcher and select always so you don't have to select it everytime you hit the home button...

Wanna thank me...click Like Me or donate me an espresso!

Disclaimer: If you install Chinese APK's or use the Mi-Box interface be aware that they are sometimes....just in Chinese. In this particular case...the Chinese language will not (never) be translated....Use a different launcher or don't install Chinese APK's...

Yes I'm lazy...I normally use Google translate to read the Chinese Xiaomi BBS
....but for the even more lazy readers the English manual:

Guys, I tried this method yesturday. It works.
I had some "problems"
1. language of Shuame is Chinese, very uncomfortable to use, only one word in english - "root", helps a lot)))
2. had to root twice, because of unknown reason (explanation was in chinese)
3. when tried to install apps, Snappea did strange things: it shows me all apps in BOX, but tried to recieve data from BOX all the time, and refused to install new apps. Device was really overheat, I had to switch it off a few times, to let him chill a bit.
4. Pop-up with loader chooser did not appear... But XBMC works great, if it starts from menu of MiLoader.

Thanks a lot for Manual. everything works good. I am still working and tuning it on

Everything works great!!!
You should connect device to TV, while you making all those manipulations.
For some reason it's should be nesessary... It kills 2 of "problems":
- when rooting - message appears "click "OK" button" - and you shold click "OK" on device using TV screen,
- when installing apps (for unknown reason) device, connected to TV works in Snappea in a few seconds, without owerheat problem, works just great, and you can see all changes on a screen

All chinese words that left in original loader after translation - are pictures, and Morelocale just can't translate pictures...

Great!
I tried http://www.shuame.com/, seems it works (got the $ sign)
I enter adb shell, but when I type in ' whomai', I got:
whoami: unknown uid 2000
---------------------------------
means I still not got 'root' right?

My intention to have rooted MiBox is to fix the XBMC youtube login issue, but I cannot find where is the installation directory of xbmc?

anyone got any idea? thanks in advance.

Hi there,
I basically followed the instruction but probably made the mistake to overwrite system apps. Now snappea does not recogize the box any more and it stalls when I try to start it.
What can I do?

I will receive my Mi Box Pro/Enhanced Ed. today. I will let you know if I'm able to grab the apps and share it here or on my online storage account

Sent from my Xiaomi mi2 with Tapatalk. This is why my message could contain spelling mistakes.

I'm trying to Root my device, but it doesn't work yet.

@Didit Adithya
I was able to download all the apps from my device.
Here is the mega downloadlink from my Dropbox.
Have fun!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wccdmgw1kjkqnun/Backup_apps_MiboxPro.zip

Edit:
I was not able to root my device. I have tried:
Framaroot
VRoot
Rootgenius
Shuame (seems to lock itself and you can't do a thing + Avast says the download is a virus)

I was able to install apps like XBMC and Flash player, but I can't install/test the languages :(
Does someone have more options for me, to root my Mibox Pro?

1 last update :)
I made a typo in the ADB shell, I am now able to change my location to The Netherlands (I was able to change it to English via the standard menu).
I was hoping that the language of the box would change, but it is just for the underlaying OS (you can change the homelauncher, which will let you see the standard AOSP Android OS.)

What do you mean with store? physical/webshop or Miui Market/Google Play?
The remote controller came together with the package.

If you want to controll the TV with your phone, this is what I haven't tested looked for yet.
I have only tried Mi WiDI (showing the screen of my phone on the tv :))
