So let me tell you my story, after lots of reading through different forums and threads, I am confused if my Xiaomi Mi3 is fake. Well to begin with, i have checked my device with CPU-Z and its seems right. And antutu shows just right specs. But i am not convince enough so i check if i have the mi-recovery and yes i do. Even the fastboot with picture of xiaomi bunny fixing android is there!

The reasons why i check all through are:
1. I dont have updater app, setting>about and click update will crash the device.
2. The cleaner app will force close.
3. I cant verify my phone on xiaomi website.

It could be the ROM the person installed. I saw where someone had bought one and the seller had disabled updates because they were only in Chinese and English and not multi language.

You could try downloading the newest update and flashing in mi recovery.

Also where did you buy it?

I bought it from local reseller in Malaysia. Since its hard to get the phone from xiaomi official website, i have to buy from reseller.

Anyway i can confirm that this is the original set since i just flashed Malaysian stable build. I am so relieved and problem 1 & 2 solve. Its definitely software related. But still i dont understand why my imei dont have sell records when i check in xiaomi website.

The device seems genuine, it's just the rom installed to be in a bad version. Follow this guide http://en.miui.com/thread-22454-1-1.html and after fastboot flash download last rom from here and update.
Thanks for your concern, well i have flashed latest Malaysian WCDMA version into the phone and it succeed! So yes my phone is indeed genuine, but i just cant understand why i cant verify my imei and s/n through their website.

I also bought my phone in Malaysia through a reseller. The OS that came with it was very crazy and bloated. (Had apps like CleanMaster, Mobogenie etc). I'm pretty sure what I got was the Chinese varient though, rather than the Malaysian one. Is there any difference? I just flashed the latest CN Developer Rom and removed some Chinese apps, and I'm pretty happy with it.
