    Hi there,

    I managed to successfully root my Mi Box 3 w firmware 1.3.114 . Thought I'd share :)

    Tools needed:
    - Male to Micro USB Female Converter Connector
    - USB stick

    Software needed:
    - Mi image 1.3.106:
    yadi dot sk/d/Yvr1jYflm6GZR
    dropbox dot com/s/72x76khqjlpekap/MiBOX3_jurassicpark_gitv_1.3.106.386.zip
    - Kingo root for windows

    kingoapp dot com

First you will need to downgrade the firmware to version 1.3.106.
Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file to a formatted usb tick (Fat32).
(Should be two files: xiaomi_update and update.zip)
Put the stick in your Mi Box and boot in recovery: unplug power, press and hold back + ok button while plugging the power back in. The remote should be nearby and facing the box. Do not let go of the buttons until it booted in recovery. the flashing should start and finish automatically.

After first boot make sure you disable Intelligent Update.

Second step is to root your box with Kingo.
Enable USB/ADB debugging and reboot (it's right there in the menu under security settings).
Install Kingo root on your pc or laptop and connect your box using a micro usb charging cable. This is where you'll need the adapter. Start Kingo Root, follow instructions and choose 'Root again'.
This will take a minute... done!

    Mine is not working.

    1. Downgrade: Success(but not automatically, I need to push last button from the screen(something like back to stock rom)
    2. Kingo Root
I tried using USB to USB cable.
Kingo asked install battery app. (allowed)
    starting root from computer
at 25%, Mi Box 3 turn off / turn on automatically
    at 33% failed.

Is there anything I need to check up?

Make sure you have the Mi 3 TV Box (MDZ-16-AA) and also , try Changing the machine you are using to root too, also check the system version after the flash and that it really came back to 106.

Have exactly the same issue as Taeho.
    My MiBox is (MDZ-16-AA).
I've downgraded to version, but USB didn't work, so I've rebooted and return back to "fabric setting".
In this "fabric" version the USB is detected in Win10 and works correctly, but the Kingo failed as Taeho wrote (25% restart, then 33% failed).
So I tried to flash it back to version 106 again, and there I am lost, because USB is not detected in Win10 - not detected means there is no "unknown device" or any other changes in the device manager once I connect MiBox to toUSB.
    Any idea?

I found a fix by myself...
    - Download universal USB Android driver (latest_usb_driver_windows.zip)
    - Add manualy the "Old type driver" in the "Device manager" choosing "Android Composite ADB Interface"
After this MiBox 3 was found on USB port and then driver loaded correctly as well.
And the Rooting process by Kingo Root passed as well then ;)

finally, I did it. Issue was Off USB/ADB debugging.
you need to turn off debugging before start recovery mode.
after turn off debugging mode, i can downgrade automatically.

    Hi,
I should received mime in couple of days, and i intend to root it too :)...... can't wait, so excited :)
However, I was wondering if after rooting the device we will still be able to apply new updates or will it alter the rooting?
    Thanks

    Unfortunately my device is dead
But it's not difficult, its very simple
Just you have to do this steps near the device and before connecting power supply, and then you have to press and hold
If your device cannot inter recovery mode try "home+menu"
You have to hole these buttons for 1 minute

Most of the android boxs... are like this one... i have got an Ouya Console and i know the dangers... but it looks weird this box doesn't have a custom recovery mode... like CWM, or TWRP

It's not necessary to connecting to PC for rooting
You can install "360root" app on your box and then try to root
Just notice , install last version and TV version
I did it with this method easily
