that's a simple problem of file permissions. Use a root explorer to set the permissions of buildprop to -rw-r--r-- and the owner to root. Then reboot and everything should work again.

same phone, miui and problem. solution did not work. permission and owner are set as shown.

for me it works absolutely fine after setting permissions and user as I wrote above. And yes, it did crash for me, too, when the permissions were not correct. Of course a restart is needed after these changes, like always when you mess with the system!

Mi 5s and mi mix 2 permissions ... see picture ...no problem at all everything working as it should. .

So how does this work? When I check build.prop it already has the right permissions, but MI camera is still crashing.

Let's go from the beginning. Flash rom again only wiping caches. Gain Root access. Su or magisk. Download BuildProp editor by jrummy...from Google play ... Then at the right top there is a pen tap it ... Copy paste at the last line this:

persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1

Save it then tap on the three dots go to properties check the right permission as I told you before tap apply.... reboot ...

You are ready to go

Don't select execute only what it shows at the picture

Nothing, it just keep crashing. For last I'm going to clean flash miui eu or official miui. If it still does not work, then I think I will switch again to a custom rom or simply forget about stock camera. At least *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* it's pretty much stable now.

Perhaps the fault is on the side Snapdragon on series 4. I've also the same problem and have Redmi 4a. If I would bought Note 4 I suppose wouldn't have this problem.

You can't use Camera2 API reliably. Just accept it. Should have bought a better device than a bottom-tier Redmi 4/4X/4A...
