I will try to explain how to root the MiBox.

    I used:
Download the VRoot an connect the mibox to the pc.
First Screen when you install the application
    Clipboard01.jpg
When the Phone / MiBox is connected the button to root is enabled
    Clipboard02.jpg
    Process to Root
    Clipboard03.jpg
    Success Message
    Clipboard04.jpg
Take in account that when an application requieres root you will see a request in the MiBox to allow or deny the access. Buttons in the TV:
    Left Button - Deny Access
    Right Button - Allow Access.
    Request Permission.jpg
So if you wan to allow the access in the remote control press: Down Button and then Right Button
So if you wan to deny the access in the remote control press: Down Button.

I wrote the steps with screenshots in: http://en.miui.com/thread-6917-1-1.html

I don't think so, any way the Windows application allow you to unroot, so the apk will be unistalled and restore the system as it was before.
It's a reversible process. I will check it in the next update...

I can update to 1.3.1 and the root still works (if you have it already installed). I suppose that the method still working with this version 1.3.1 but I didn't check it

I can confirm that this method works in 1.3.1. Updated my box to 1.3.1 and rooted it after that!

I found some problems when the system is updated. Is like the system is unrooted

I reinstall the Root and continue working well.

There is a way to disable the automatic updates?

The Mi1+ is rooted by default with Miui.
This system is available for more than 3000 devices so it's probably that works for your device
