Purpose Of 3 Dots In The Notification Bar?

I see 3 dots often appearing in the notification bar, side to the connection speed, and I'm wondering what they mean.. ROM 9.1.2.0 stable on a Mix

it means you have notifications.

Now I get it...
And setting the 'Show notifications icons' toggle to ON, I can have the full icons showing in the status bar instead..
