Redmi 3 Root

Hi I have received a Redmi 3 16gb today with stable ROM 7.1.91.99 without root access.

Is it only possible to get root access with official ROMS from the weekly ROM or stable as well?

Yes. You can root official ROM with locked bootloader. There is a guide on en miui forum for it. Headover then to download the apk . install and run the app then you will have root access
