'This device is locked' after hard reset

Hi there,

Tried doing hard reset on Redmi4X. Did it before on Android phones, but this one threw me off. I get a message saying this devide is locked - and I don't remember Mi Account password.

So, how can I get round this?

Relatedly, I googled a bit, and alot of solutions seem to involve 'Mi Unlocking Tool.exe' - Mlware bytes flags this as malware - is it true? Is this safe?

thanks. is there a reason why malware bytes flags it as being trojan? do you have a afe download link? maybe I used corrupted one?

I tried the following two methods (described in the 2 videos), and neither worked - downloaded the software etc.

Thans, but problem is, I don't even know what the Mi Account number is anymore, as I already did hard reset. And I don't remember what email account it was linked to either.
