I got my Mi3 today. I want to flash it with xiaomi.eu rom and root it. I started from here:

http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/4-7-11.24912/
Installation:

Xiaomi devices:
  • Install via OTA or Updater app

I cannot, the updater doesn't find any new updates.

Then I tried this:

http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/guide-flashing-rom-using-miflash-mi2-3.19287/

I cannot, the package is not a fastboot version? It does not recognize the package.

Then I tried this:

http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/how-to-update-upgrade-miui.15424/

I cannot, the ROM Manager does not support MI3W and reguires manual install which I dont know how to do.

So my question is, what should I try next? I'd be happy to be just able to update to xiaomi.eu rom at this point and worry about the root later.

Download the ROM on your SD card (or copy it from a pc). Then: settings - about phone - system updates - menu button - select instalation pack, then select the ROM on your SD card.

Ok I spent 5 hours last night trying to update. I figured out how to use the updater but ANY update fails.

I have also tried stock recovery but it does not recognize update.zip. It seems to me that it fails to mount the SD.
