Spanish newspaper.
The phones of the Chinese brand Xiaomi would be recording the behavior of users on their own mobile phones and web history, even with private browsing activated, data that would later be sent to remote servers in China.

A Forbes investigation exposes the amount of data that Xiaomi smartphones allegedly collect from its users. The monitoring of web activity would be done through the own browser installed on the brand's devices, as well as in My Browser Pro and Mint Browser, available on Google Play.

Specifically, browsers would record web pages that the user visits or searches through services such as Google or DuckDuckGo, and would occur even if the user has activated incognito mode. Monitoring would also take place in the use of smarpthone, with the folders it opens, the status bar or the settings page.

Yes, everyone knows your pornhub history...!
jajajajaja that's doesn't mind, but is not a good practice. Otherwise i use firefox on my Mi 9T, and Opera with vpn in my pc. On the phone just debloat de default browser and go ahead.

Omg... Xiaomi knows what you share with google and facebook.

I guess as an android user you have to believe in apple because they don't know anything about you!

They lost my trust. I was a xiaomi fanboy, but it’s over.

It’ not about some «history» , this process can allow to see evrything you do on your smarthone, it means all your life.
If it doesn’t matter, so, why not give a public access to your " browser history" and all your activity on your phone? Would you publish that here? Even if you have « nothing to hide», it still your place , your space. And many people don’t want anybody to watch it.

For example chrome has a syncing function for browser history. I use it because i have two pc's, a tablet and a smartphone.

How are the visited websites are syncing between devices? Of course they are sent to a server of google.

That doesn't mean they read all of you websites.

It would be nice to create a rom with open source apps that more respect our privacy and that were safer for the user. A website with options and apps with this policy is ethical.net

you CHOOSE to sync on chrome, is not by defaut. And you have a easy choice of better navigator for dataprivcy . Not like an phone OS

thx, I read the article. I hope that XIAOMI still trustable, but didn’t changed the fact that the reshearcher found uncrypted information in communications. Let’s see Xiaomi next moove to be more transparant on that

I am an SDE, who has been working for more than 5 years for fairly important companies and I can tell you that "no one falls from the clouds", it is such an obvious thing and I do not know why it makes such a stir, Google was the first to trace everything via the Internet in this way, and I really don't understand all this fuss when America is the first to do these things, but as soon as some Chinese friend gives it, immediately scandal and everyone talks about it.
Americans want to moralize others when they are the first to tarnish it.
I am of the opinion, that I don't give a s**t, because I have nothing to hide, the people who worry about it is because they are maybe in illegality, if you have nothing illegal I wonder what there is to worry about.

You’re right , American companies do that from a long time. And it laughable that people are shocked when they use google, gmail, facebook, insta... and even got Alexa at home. BUT: some peoples don’t. I don’t use google, I have a paid protonmail, I use a VPN, I don’t use any social media, I am very careful with the app I install... I want to have the choice to no give my private data , even If I have to pay for that.
I love Android, and I want to get an android smartphone who don’t use my privacy data for selling it to other companies or government.

«... I have nothing to hide ....» : yeah, I have nothing to hide. But I still close my door, my window, don’t let people watch what’s I’m doing inside my place. I don’t let my phone without lock, even with close people.
If you say « I have nothing to hide so I don’t care about privacy» and let Xiaomi or government to watch all your private life : so, would you give ALL YOUR PASSWORDS to me? To your wife? to your friend, family? If a government or Xiaomi agent ring to your door, ask you to install a spyware on your computer, a camera in your house, will you say « Yeah, no problem, I have nothing to hide!»
We all deserve privacy, if we want it. We don’t have to be a criminal to .

Ps: what is a SDE?

The Global ROM version has lot of Chinese specific apps removed, the EU ROM removes even more bloatware.

I am wondering, which other remaining system apps in EU ROM still call home to "improve user experience" without giving the user the option to opt out.

You can use my android tools pro,,to disable calling home and other stuff,,its like a firewall

Let us know if you find out. We already remove analytics in most of the apps we could find, including the browser.
