If you have an older BETA version than the last STABLE version, you don't need to clean install. I've made this on my old Redmi Note 5 Pro, and worked fine. LE: Basically on every downgrade you need to clean install. On upgrades it is not necessary.

Clean install is needed when your actual MIUI version (already installed on phone) is greater (newer) than the version you want to install. So, if you have A11 with a old version of MIUI you don't need to format if you put a newer version of MIUI.

There is a option in the Full screen display menu. Hide full screen indicator. With this on, you will not have the indicator, but the full screen navigation will work. I personally use this function. I don't like the white bar because in some applications it takes a little part of the screen.
