It's the Google Play downloading forever issue. Several of us have this problem. Right now I have blocked for 10 minutes (draining battery).

In MI8 Google Play is downloading all time (or maybe is Play Protect working), so battery draining fast.

Yes, you lose magisk root with OTA, but then you can return to TWRP and install magisk zip again. The config of Magisk program keeps.
