unlock without a 4G sim card

Please forgive me - my German is 50 years ago high school, so I need English. I am in the same boat as m41564. I have the Pad 4 LTE, which Cricket allegedly supports in the US VoLTE, but my sim from my Mi A1 does nothing - no VoLTE. I thought I needed to unlock, but it stops me at "no phone...
