Can someone explain why you need root on official rom? Isn't locking the bootloader enough? As alternative couldn't you just bank in a browser? (Pick one safe browser and only use it for banking, use another browser for your daily browsing.)

Any possibility to install security updates with keeping the rom original? I believe but am not sure we won't get anymore updates? Think google really dropped the ball here, users not being able to keep rom secure, depending on phone manufacturers who have only one mission, sell new phones.
