I think that did it! Thank you! After clearing all data from those apps I was able to remove and add the card back for NFC payments without problems! Was this caused by something I did, so that I can prevent it from happening in the future ?

NFC payment with Google Pay doesn't work anymore - it was working fine just a couple of days ago now it says device can't be used to pay in shops. I didn't change any settings or ROM. Phone is NOT rooted.

Thanks, but since this is my primary phone I can't afford to re-install everything with each update. Any chance this might be fixed in a later rom update or is the issue too deep?

I wiped everything during install in TWRP (followed some italian tutorial I no longer have the link to). xiaomi.eu miui 10 stable installed fine, nfc works. After wiping I copied the new rom over to the phone in TWRP. One thing I didn't manage was to get TWRP to stay after switching phone off...

Using xiaomi.eu miui 10 stable on Mi 8 China version (unlocked bootloader) - Google Pay works , Google Assistant doesn't support my language so I don't know.
