Some people had it happen on the CN ROM as well, seems like a very hard issue to solve would be willing to sort out logs if the devs tell us how to give them they might be able to find something then.

They use a Mi author account, which gives them access to a quantity of UBL/EDL/FRP keys which allows them to easily unlock the phone, no idea what the requirements are for a official Mi author account I imagine there is a black market behind how they get access to such accounts. here's a example...

Can also confirm that when I was using CN ROM I was rooted and was also recieving OTA updates like normal, seems like Xiaomi forgot to disable the option for OTA or something for BL unlocked/rooted phones

In my opinion this current impossibility is because Xiaomi doesn't want anymore resellers of CN Rom, they went beyond the new regulations for this reason alone from my gut instinct.

Sorry man but reality seems to say very differently how did I manage to root with the BL being locked? btw not advising use of them as it is risky they could scam you but when its a last resort you got to do what you got to do.

There are paid services who I believe use a "mi author account" to unlock the device not sure if they work for HyperOS yet.

Interesting had a look it seems like multiple people managed to get multiple bands unlocked on the xiaomi 5 but not band20 but at one point these guys were very close to getting band20...
