It sounds quite normal. Charging, coupled with Android Auto, and perhaps even sunny or warm weather, can lead to overheating.

If Xiaomi itself stopped to support the phone, the EU team will as far as I know not continue to release updates for it, because the EU ROM is based on the stock ROM.

Download and install the EU ROM from here, then you will have the Xiaomi dialer which supports call recording. As far as I know it is not possible to install MI dialer on the stock ROM (global).

I'm not entirely sure if the entire cloud service is being discontinued or if it's just about photos. I can still upgrade at the moment, and I'll probably do so in the future, since if the service is discontinued, you'll get your money back (at least that's what Xiaomi is saying).
