My mi4c had never a locked bootloader. After flashing nougat it got locked. I unlocked it for the very first time with Xiaomi.eu ROM the official way without any issues. #Tapatalk@Mi-4c#

Just unlocked my mi4c, 1 day after permission. It took less than 1 minute including reboot. I don't know if it was unlocking or a reboot but now all cores are active Edit: Now, also twrp is installed. #Tapatalk@Mi-4c#

For private I use bluemail, for work outlook because all appointments and contact persons are synchronised with company frontoffice system. And it is indeed a choice, that is good. Doesn't this mean that the problem is the mail app more than it is the miui version? #Tapatalk@Mi-4c#

If you have a locked bootloader and waiting for Xiaomi for unlock code you can flash China dev ROM without any consequences. As I remember from what I have read, you need China dev ROM on your phone to unlock it. And this way you'll be able to use your phone while waiting for the unlock...
