Moving the hosts file into /data/data has no effect. Even symlinking /system/etc/hosts to /data/data/hosts does not work. What do you mean by checking root permissions for an app? In RC1 the hosts file could simply be dropped under /system/etc, but in RC2 it does not work anymore. So my guess...

For adblocking, I used /etc/system/hosts with RC1 but with RC2 it does not seem to work anymore. Could it have to do with SELinux permissions set to "enforcing"?
