I made an experiment by reflashing this rom 7.3.23 to my Mi Max, just to see what the culprit is. At the beginning, the Play Store version is 7.3.07.K After some time, the Play Store updated itself to 7.6.08.N version and this is when the Play Store started to display "Waiting for Wifi" problem...

Strangely, I'm having the very similar issue with this waiting for wifi thing, but only on my Mi Max. The same ROM 7.3.23 in Mi 5s doesn't have this problem.

I was using 6.8.4 and then updated to 6.8.11. Both are very good, almost perfect for my Mi Max 32GB. There is one problem found in both versions though: unable to download via mobile data, always "waiting for Wi-Fi". I tried to find the unlimited size in Download App > Setting, but didn't found...
