Gboard Sync Problems

Ive noted that several users have the same problem as i have wherein you are unable to sync gboard even though you have regular gmail profile. This problem is not seen in global ROMS but only in chinese MIUI and EU MIUI. Does anybody have a fix for this?would making GBoard a system app fix...
