Apple Photos importing pictures small version?

Hello For some reason when I import the pictures from my Mi 8 to Apple Photos it imports everything duplicated and with a tiny version of each photo. This never happened with my iPhone or samsung phones. Any idea on how to avoid this? Thanks!
