Gmail app doesn't play notification sound on new emails

I have been having this issue with gmail where there is no sound for any new email notification although it is set to play sound.
I am running here 12.5.5 on mi 10 ultra.
I have seen people only complaining about this issue with miui and xiaomi devices. So i thought of reaching out here to see if someone can investigate this from miui side.

Appreciate any input. Sorry if this is not the right place to report this. Feel free to move it to the right forum section.

Why not use Outlook app to sync Gmail's emails instead?

Because I'm much more comfortable with Gmail and displaying the contacts avatar.

According to your advice, I should not use Xiaomi phones because something does not always work in them.

You should not buy a Xiaomi phone at all in 2021, that's my best advice.

Gmail was updated today, and the notification sound is already working fine.
