How to root Xiaomi Redmi Note 5?

I just got my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and I would like to fastboot flash it and root it.

Its a global version with MIUI Global 9.5 Stable ROM (9.5.6.0.)

What ROM should I use to fastboot flash it and to root it?

You have to unlock bootloader first:
http://en.miui.com/unlock/

Then download TWRP and Magisk to phone:

fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-0-whyred.img

You can just boot TWRP image for Magisk install, no need to flash it. You have to do this again every time after updating rom.
