Installing EU ROM on my Mi 11 PRO

Hello all,

I submitted the request to unlock my bootloader last week via the official website so in a few hours I can finally start replacing the current China ROM from my Mi 11 PRO with the EU/Global version.
Main reason I'm doing it is because I noticed some apps don't show me notifications only when I open them, google gives me notifications on news/discover but they are all blank and when tapping on them nothing happens. In general the google functions are very restricted and buggy. Even the Keyboards sometimes lag and the china apps are quite annoying also.
I have one question, I am into ***** currency and online banking so would an open bootloader reduce my security in any way? If so, Is there maybe an app that I can install after to make it more secure?
As far as I heard as long as the device is not ""rooted" it should be fine -> questions: does unlocking bootloader and install the ROM, mean ROOT?
Or what is the step in the whole installation process I should avoid in order to prevent root?
Last question: would you recommend stable ROM or weekly and will there be OTAs?

Currently I have the China version MIUI 12.5.4.0

My bootloader can be unlocked in 2 hours and I'd like to have everything prepared.

Unlocking the bootloader does not mean root, but some applications can detect it and refuse to run.

About OTA, there is no fully working TWRP, so - for now - the answer is no.

Thanks for the feedback. So would you recommend the weekly update ROM then as it is newer?
In terms of root will it be rooted once I use Magis or whatever that tool is called or what is the actual way of rooting? Just want to make sure I'm not rooting it accidently.
Sorry for the questions I used to be fairly knowledgeable in that area but for the last 3-4 years I haven't looked into it so assume things have changed since.

Hello I personally would go for the stable Rom, because I do not want to attach every week my phone to the pc and then run the update script! But this is my personal preference.

In fairness the china ROM is working stable but because of the google restrictions and having to use workarounds to use Google it's a bit of a pain occasionally.
Will go for the stable ROM so

I have the stable 12.5.4 EU ROM and today just for fun I pressed the looking for update function and it found the 12.5.10 version.
Is this real? As in, is this the latest from the community or is this the official Xiaomi and if I install it brings me back to the China ROM?

If you are using EU version, the Updater will find EU updates of course.

Thanks for the answer. So can I update it without a doubt? I'm very cautious as I've experienced it about 10 years ago where it brought me back to an OEM OS and I believe some things didn't work again...

In a few hours you should be fine. Installing a rom does not mean root. There is no step process to prevent root. Root is obtained by flashing a third party app, such as Magisk. As long as you don't flash anything other than the rom, you will not have rooted your phone. Both the stable and weekly are great roms and both get OTAs.
