New phone - microphone not working for calls, whatsapp, memos - just fuzz.

First day with the Redmi Note 9, got the phone all setup, all my apps and data transfered and hit a problem.

No one can hear me either on phone/whatsapp. There is just an inteference/crackly sound the other end. When I record a voice memo on Whatsapp there is no sound.

Having read a few forums and watched a few videos I have tried:

- Turning off google assistant
- Checked microphone access was turned on for whatsapp and phone services
- Updating the OS
- Rebooting numerous times

Makes the phone completely useless... hopefully not a hardware issue as I live on an island and had the phone delivered...

Should add - it does work when I use a bluetooth headset. No problems...
