Couldn't get a definite answer. If I'm on a stable version, will I eventually get OTA version and download through the updater app? or is OTA only for weekly releases?

I installed the stable MIUI8 via TWRP, but had to erase all data and setup the phone again. Now I hope that I won't have to do this again in order to get updates. Can someone tell me if I can get either Ota updates or manual uploads but can keep system settings? Thanks for that info.
