Phone wont power on unless I disconnect the battery first

I have a really weird problem with my daughters old Pocco X3 Pro

She cracked the screen on it a month ago, I bought her a new phone but wanted to repair the old phone to use as a spare.

I bought a new screen and frame and swapped the components over. It powered up and seemed to work normally (I could use the power button to turn on and off the screen). I then powered off the phone but found it would not power on again. I disassembled the phone again, disconnecting battery, and checked the connections, it then powered on and seemed to work normally. Again, when I did a power down it would not switch on again (blank screen etc.). The Volume Up/ Power button comination does not work.

I haev repeated this several times, the phone initially seems to work but will not power on after powering down.

I bought a new power switch, just in case it was linked to that, it wasn't. What I did notice was the the battery was flat and I needed to plug it in to start up.

I have just tried doing a factory reset. It went through the process until it shut down when, yet again, it would not reboot

My suspecion is that it is crashing during the shut down process just before it finally shuts down and that is leaving the phone in a state that is gradually draining the battery.

Any suggestions on what I might try next?

Thanks
