I am waiting for my account to be old enough to apply but I've been seeing people say they've tried for 5 months and haven't been able to, I got the phone specifically to unlock the BL, it's a global, so I can unlock it right? Seeing people call it impossible made me anxious

It's not impossible but it is hard. Xiaomi sets a daily limit on how many people can request an unlock. My guess is they only allow probably 5 to 10 people per day and there are thousands of people trying to unlock theirs. So it's a matter of who's faster.

The unlock limit is reset every 00:00 GMT+8 so depending on your timezone and availability on that time you could be having a hard time than somebody else. The unlock limit is filled out in less than a second so you really have to be very quick and monitor the reset time by the millisecond.
