Update Xiaomi.eu

Hello,
I'm a proud owner of a Xiaomi mi5.
I currently have flashed in my device the xiaomi.eu 8.5.2.0 stable and i want to update to MIUI 9 xiaomi.eu. Do i have to use the 7.8.31 weekly? WILL I LOSE MY DATA LIKE APPS, PHOTOS AND ANYTHING ELSE? Do i have to flash in TWRP or update through Update app? Really thank you

i think you can make-out of what i did for my mi max 2 and apply it in your case:
1. while still with official miui global stable rom 8.5.6.0, requested permission and secured approval to unlock the bootloader. unlocked the bootloader.
2. flashed custom recovery, twrp, permanently to replace stock recovery, then wiped data not including the internal storage.
3. flashed the xiaomi.eu stable rom 8.5.13.0 in twrp. reinstalled my apps from google play store.
4. flashed the xiaomi.eu beta 7.8.31 rom in twrp without wiping data. data not lost.
5. now device ready to accept future ota updates.
