What if Xiaomi stops the possibility to unlock bootloaders?

More manufacturers are going to stop unlocking recently. And so does Xiaomi as far as it seems.
They still claim to offer Unlock by applying for an Unlock in the Community app.
After trying for weeks, I learned they only.offer a limited number of Unlocks per day, rumors say 2000 only? Then they start a period on 00:00 Chinese time. So first groups are scripting to automatically batch-unlock at 00::00, making it almost impossible for human unlocked.
That's not applying for an Unlock, that's more a lottery.
What comes next? Xiaomi could stop Unlocking completely.

What will happen to Xiaomi.eu? Aren't they depending on unlocked devices?

For me it's clear to return recently purchased Xiaomi devices and stop purchasing Xiaomi.
Looking for manufacturers providing free hardware.

For the moment it is still working to unlock devices, although it takes some patience.

So, I bought a new Xiaomi device expecting to jump through a few hoops (install Xiaomi Community app, get permission on a Global variant, run Mi Unlock, wait 3-7 days) to unlock bootloader and install xiaomi.eu. No such luck. The daily limit of 2000 devices or whatever they imposed effectively makes it impossible. Just for fun, I tried for 10 days in a row right at 12:00, and nothing! Either got "try again in 1 minute" or "daily limit exceeded, come back in 24 hours".

Xiaomi bootloader unlocking in 2025 onward is a lottery at best and a very effective deterrence mechanism - many people would not bother. This is similar to what Google is going with APK sideloading later this year (https://keepandroidopen.org)

Sure, scripted solutions and paid unlocking services exist, but to me, it sounds like Xiaomi is on the way to forbid the practice altogether.

For now I had to give up, keep the stock Global ROM and just install Xiaomi Contacts & Dialer. Or maybe just send the new phone back and keep the older unlocked unit, just install a new battery.

Which brings me to my next question. If xiaomi.eu project is sort of supported by Xiaomi (has official consent from Xiaomi founders in Beijing), why can't they sign the ROMs, so xiaomi.eu can be installed on bootlocked devices, at least the Global variants?

It's not "sort of supported by Xiaomi" nor has any official/explicit consent from Xiaomi.
No one but Xiaomi has access to their private signing keys.

How to install Xiaomi Dialer on Global ROM?
I think that has also become impossible since Xiaomi 17

Should be fairly easy using ADB as Xiaomi Dialer is pre-installed, just hidden / disabled

adb shell
pm install-existing com.android.contacts
pm install-existing com.android.incallui
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.phone.cust.overlay.miui
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.dialer
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.contacts

and then under Settings -> Default Apps, set Dialer to "Contacts & Dialer" and give it all the permissions it asks for (contacts, phone, SMS, etc.)

Note: you will gain some features (ex. call recording) but also lose some features (ex. caller ID and spam detection) if you make the switch from Google dialer to Xiaomi

This mod survives minor version OTA updates (ex. HyperOS 3.0 to 3.1), but not sure about a major version (ex. to HyperOS 4.0), in which case you might have to repeat the steps above every year

But someone wrote somewhere that it no longer works, ie. that they removed completely HyperOS Dialer apk's from ROM files.

Then have you tried to install the Xiaomi Contacts & Dialer as an .apk file via ADB? Once you get the file, ex. from here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/xiaomi-inc-2/contacts-and-dialer-xiaomi/

Then run:

adb install -r -d -g dialer.apk

Another possible option (which requires a factory reset unfortunately) is to select Hong Kong as the region when setting up for the first time, and it should install Xiaomi Dialer in this case, as Google apps (including Google Phone app) are not permitted in this region. But it will also hide eSIM options, so you have to switch region to UK to restore it, then switch to whichever region you are actually in.

You probably won't be able to sideload dialer.apk, only reinstall a hidden version already present in ROM using ADB

Miui dialer install tested on Xiaomi 13t hyperros 2, Xiaomi 14t pro hyperros 3, Xiaomi 17 hyperros newest 3.x. all bought in Europe NON CHINA VERSION, EU VERSION
1 step: unlock bootloader
2 step: flash global rom (MI rom, not EU rom fastboot)
3 step: fully boot
4 step: flash once more global tom + lock bootloader [flash_all+lock bat/sh - NO USE ONLY fastboot comand LOCK - could brick device sometimes)
5 step: on first boot choose Hongkong region and your language
Voila miui dialer with call recording. Esim work like charm too!

Region stay at Hongkong always. But language could be polish for example. Only region in options. Cause region don't affected anything. Choose language system as u wish
