New WhatsApp crashing MIUI 11

Hello,
I just got a Mi Mix 3 (not 5G) recently and installed this rom on it. It worked fine until Whatsapp started crashing repeatedly and I wouldn't get any notifications. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, clearing the cache and data but nothing would fix it.
Did I forget to wipe anything during the ROM install or is that just a bug?

I have the same problem and read in another thread that changing the notification tone to system default could help.. didn't try it yet though
