Wi-fi Hotspot Not Working

I'm on 7.3.9 and I'm having trouble with wi-fi hotspot. I can see the network from other devices and connect to it, but it doesn't share internet connection: the connected device has no internet. I checked APN settings and tried with two different SIM cards from two carriers and neither seems to work.

Has anyone tested if wi-fi hotspot works fine with recent xiaomi.eu versions?

So root is required to fix tethering... What a mess

None if you seek to add features, but you shouldn't need to root to enable something that had to work out-of-the-box

I think I'll try LineageOS...

the biggest downside with that move is the camera quality. You will lose a lot compared with Miui camera

I tested wi-fi hotspot with mi old Mi Note Pro, with same dev ROM, and it works fine...

EDITED: Wi-fi hotspot started to work when I removed the secondary SIM from my Mi5. Strange and annoying.
