Just received the mi pad and its great. I want to root but there are so many ways im confused. Does someone knows the easiest way to root? My rom is miui 7 by xiaomi.eu 5.9.17 beta i did it with the update.zip tutorial. Thank you very much.

You just have to give permisions to the app that require Root acces.
Im totally new to Miui, just been with it for less than a week and by reading several threads over here i found all the info needed to know how to deal with root access.
I have my phone in spanish so i will try my best to tell you what to do.
First, go to SETTINGS - ABOUT THIS PHONE (at the botom of the menu) and click 7 to 10 times where MIUI VERSION appears. A notification will appear telling you that you have Admin privileges. This will give you SuperAdmin Acces. If you go now to SETTINGS -ADITIONAL SETTINGS (below child mode) you will see a new menu at the botom called DEVELOPERS OPTIONS (You will need it later on).
Some apps require to have the USB DEPURATION activated and the INSTALL UNSIGNED APPs Activated.
For the first one go to: SETTINGS -ADITIONAL SETTINGS (below child mode)-DEVELOPERS OPTIONS - activate USB DEPURATION.
For the second one go to: SETTINGS -ADITIONAL SETTINGS (below child mode)- SECURITY - activate UNKNOWN SOURCES.
Finally to give acces to apps that require so functionality just go to the SECURITY APP (not the menu but the app) and enter ROOT ACCESS, where you will se and modify all apps that have root access.

Download SuperSu app and transfer it to your phone and install... then find Security app on Tools folder and choose Permission and choose again Permission find SuperSU apps then granted root access... after that open SuperSU app to update the binary... choose Normal... and after finish reboot

The V7 is a joke so use another rom that is rooted and forgett about this Miui crap.
You can use sMiui or CM11 both work very well and are rooted by default.

if you have to use a miui rom, miuifrance rom it is rooted by default and adds gapps.Root not working on 5.9.24, it is OK on 5.9.17

the update.zip root file does not work on all the latest updates, so don't update or don't root.
it sucks big time. this together with the locked bootloader on the redmi note 3 are a serious problem.
i'm starting to loose my faith in Xaiomi.

you need to use the correct file update.zip to root the MIPAD Version 1 on Miui V7 5.xx.xx
with dev ROM because this is the ROM used by the XIAOM.EU team
1st file is 1.5Mb = works only on stable
2nd files is 3Mb = works on all versions

for those in my pad 2 (or other) gives problems flahs supersu in twrp .. Try flash SuperSU version 2.46...
