Is there an app or method to turn off data when the screen goes off? I have used Juice defender and Green Power in the past and although these work they create a lot of wake locks which seems to drain the battery faster than if I manually disable data. I don't need data schedules so only need to activate data when I specifically need to use the internet. My problem is that I often forget to turn it off when I shut the screen off and find it has been connected for a long time when I next use my phone. I have searched the forums and google play but can't find anything that does what I need. Any help would be really appreciated.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but try this (for wifi only) :

Go to Settings - wifi - advanced. Change the option for keeping wifi on during sleep to "never". ;-)

my phone is rooted runs cyanogen mod & miui.
under settings > system > wifi > advanced > wifi sleep policy

Netguard no-root firewall app does this well, you can select for each app mobile and/or WiFi access, with screen on/off.
