Changing the default browser

Hello,

Just got my new MI2s, and it is great.

I'm trying to change the default browser. In General settings->Apps->Default application Settings
you can do this, but it won't work well.

For example, when I use the search widget, I can search the web, but the new broswer(Firefox), is not the one showing.

Any ideas?

Yea, this problem has existed since between Nov-Dec 2013, when MIUI changed the default apps settings. I can also confirm what you are saying. The MIUI Browser is triggered in a couple other places, such as Email and Google Now.

I'm not sure if there is a way to fix this, or if there is a workaround. I find it highly annoying.

There is a workaround.
Turn on root and use an app like ES File Explorer to uninstall the stock MIUI browser.
It will then simply use Chrome or whatever browser you chose for everything.

That's what I did, but it won't work.
In the search widget, for example, I just have a blank icon near the search the web, and it won't search the web...

You can use the Google search widget instead. Strange because I've never had that problem.

I'll try that, although I'd like to solve that problem(using the search widget for web searches mainly, but also contacts and rarely messages).

The Google search widget does that obviously lol
And IMO it looks better too.

Ok, it's nice, but I can't get it to open the links with my installed browser(Firefox), whereas the default widget should.
