Use the system.img and vendor.img options. So, boot, system.img, vendor.img. This answer comes from the TWRP FAQ. The backup works, I haven't tried to restore yet.

In complete twrp maybe...not in this one unofficial

There's only one, the unofficial, which is what I'm using. Go and look. It has system.img and vendor.img options. If I run the usual backup of the /system partition, it fails with error 255.
Which options u talk about?
I know this twrp in any detail bcs I doing the beta tester for a twrp's developer

Backup partition selection. If you're a beta tester, try backing up System Image (3584mb on my Mix3), Boot (64mb) and Vendor Image (1024mb), then restore them and test if it works. The backup runs fine, and since it's a bitmap image, I can't see any reason why the restore shouldn't also work.

Indeed, but a backup of the data partition isn't particularly important unless you're wiping when you flash, in which case you need to be backing up with Titanium anyway. The reason I run a backup before flashing is in case of a problem with the partition being flashed, which is /system.

Also if is slow, n u don't have to restore daily micloud can be a good alternative

Really, the most important there are two partitions: /system and /data. Especially, when I've tried a lot of ROMs. But /data in backup process has an 255 error.

Not really. If you're installing a completely different ROM, you need to wipe anyway, which means you must have backed up data some other way. The only reason I back up before flashing is in case the new ROM doesn't boot, in which case it's only necessary to either restore /system or flash another ROM.

Deltree? Come si dice in Italiano?? The only issue I've found with this TWRP is the error 255. It fails on the vendor_ce and vendor_de folders, but I don't sufficiently understand the TWRP backup process to know why, and I don't have the time to go digging through the code. It always opens with the screen where you have to press Cancel in Chinese, but that's a very minor annoyance. It does everything I need from TWRP, namely flashing. On other devices, the 255 error is caused by having multiple users, but apparently not on ours since the only user I have is 0.

Il codice base delle recovery love ha chiamato deltree...sarebbe il codice base su come sono ramificate le partizioni. Bcs have an unconventionally structure in this mobile. N is also unconventional this twrp comparing the structure of official twrp

So the code has a pre-determined list of folders that it backs up? It looked from the log as if the code was attempting to backup a folder that didn't exist, but I didn't go to the trouble of creating the folder (chiamato 0) to see if it worked. Sono solo sapere un poco Italiano!

Yes a sort of chinese box one inside the other one...like boot is in ramdisk or something like it, that also slowed the development of customs miui

Honestly I'm hoping that someone figures out how to interface with the slider driver, at which point I'll probably make the jump away from MIUI. I was hesitant to buy a device with unique hardware features that need to interface with the software, but the other features and price point on the Mix 3 were just too good to pass up. I just wish someone would make a phone with no bezels and skip the selfie camera altogether!

so no good twrp available for mix3

Neither Mix1 nor Mix2s have thus far received the blessings of an official TWRP that works.

Are they not loved enough by the TWRP nerds at XDA?

My Mi Note 2 actually got an official TWRP for the first time about 1 1/2 years after release, for no particular reason that I know of.
It was never popular at XDA I believe.

This is a serious problem that I see no easy solution to, and is one reason among several why I am not so enthused about getting a Mix 2s.
