TWRP on Xiaomi 17 global: Can't mount storage

I'm encountering a strange issue with twrp 3.7.1 on a Xiaomi 17 global (pudding)

I flashed it successfully. But for some reason, I cannot mount the storage partition? I go to "mount", then I try to check the "storage" in the list of checkboxes, and nothing happens, it refuses to actually mark it as checked and of course it's not mounted. No error or anything.

I previously did wipe -> format data -> yes. As I was planning on installing xiaomi.eu.

This is annoying because then I cannot flash any rom as I can't put the rom inside /sdcard/.

Does anyone know why this would happen? Anyone successfully using it?

I did try the fastboot way actually. But it didn't work, I run into many of these errors (I don't have the full logs on me right now):

Warning: skip copying abl_ab image avb footer (abl_ab partition size: 0, abl_ab image size: 233472).
Sending 'abl_ab' (228 KB) OKAY [ 0.007s]
Writing 'abl_ab' FAILED (remote: 'No such file or directory')
fastboot: error: Command failed
Warning: skip copying aop_ab image avb footer (aop_ab partition size: 0, aop_ab image size: 282624).
Sending 'aop_ab' (276 KB) OKAY [ 0.008s]
Writing 'aop_ab' FAILED (remote: 'No such file or directory')
fastboot: error: Command failed

Some of the flash commands worked, but many led me to these writing errors.
Then I just got a bootloop.

All I did was extracting the xiaomi.eu ROM zip and running linux_install_and_format_data.sh.

Should I maybe try to reflash the original global rom with like miflash? This will not relock the bootloader right?

Well, it looks like you were in fastbootd mode, not normal fastboot.
If you're entering it from TWRP, then it's "Reboot -> Bootloader", not "Reboot -> Fastboot".

Damn you are right! Just flashed it successfully and it works. Sorry for that one.

With that being said, after the successful flashing of xiaomi.eu, I tried to reflash TWRP, and again trying to mount my storage with no success. I never had this issue in twrp with previous xiaomi phones, so I'm a bit puzzled.

EDIT: I think it's possible this version of TWRP is just not ready.

That's for pro max / ultra but I suspect it's similar. They say:

Still under work:

  • full data decryption
  • internal storage access
  • 0 MB / data mounting related issues
  • full validation of backup/restore and decrypt-dependent features

TWRP releases have been unreliable in the past few years. The default flashing method for our ROMs is fastboot.

The twrp version does not support the device encryption and that's why your internal storage is not accessible in twrp. Wait for an updated version.
