I disagree... to access to Edl mode you also have to dismantle your phone, it is not only a matter of account authorization (that Xiaomi stopped to do anyway). OnePlus it is still more free (as freedom) and flexible than Xiaomi. With Oneplus you can flash any rom you want, lock or unlock...

Unfortunatelly not only. They don't release authorization for EDL mode anymore, and the if you brick your phone (ex. you inadvertently lock the bootloader after a custom rom installation), you have to throw away. OnePlus it is better yet for this policy.

no i can't endorse xiaomi anymore, after they change policy about bootloader unlocking, custom roms etc. Instead, i would suggest One Plus

Have you ever tried Mauronofrio TWRP ? With latest version i never had issues to decrypt partitions.

For a lot of reasons (primarily because latest versions support partition decryption) it is a good idea upgrade the Twrp before to proceed with the upgrade. Personally i never had issues to upgrade twrp from fastboot and using cmd/shell commands.

Yes you can, if your current rom is xiaomi.eu miui 10 stable. Just wipe Dalvik/Art Cache and Cache and nothing else. I did it from mauronofrio twrp 3.3.1-42 and my mi9 works well While If your is a stock rom, then no. You have to wipe all.

Has someone tested Xiaomi.eu Miui 11 Stable, to check if Band 20 is now available ? If i am not getting wrong, even band 7 was not available before, but since i update to miui 11, has started to work: Unfortunately my carrier isn't using band 20, so i can't confirm, but i would like to know it.

My 8/128 mi9 works well with Xiaomi.eu Miui 11 stable. Have you wipe Dalvik/Art Cache and Cache before flashing miui 11 ?

Is the pin you set under settings -> screen lock and password. Not the pin to unlock you carrier's sim.

No, if you wipe only Dalvik cache and Cache. If you don't wipe or format your data partition, everything stays there.
