I've downloaded the ROM as soon as it was available and I hope to find some time to flash it tomorrow. For curiosity...what is the security update date?

I don't know if it's related, but after updating magisk to the last version (19.1 if I'm not wrong) It works fine for me on PayPal app.

That happened also to me many time ago. Flash an official fastboot (developer, as it seems you are using developer) ROM using MiFlash and then install your preferred ROM. BTW, it seems that official download pages are down for maintenance.

Did you reboot your phone after freezing the app? That's necessary to stop the running process. Try also checking with Wakelock Detectors to understand what's draining your battery.

No. Using apps. Personally I use Link2SD or Titanium Backup. Root is needed to freeze apps. Use latest Magisk for that.
